The Rebirth of Pontchartrain Park - New Orleans LA

We are excited to be a part of the redevelopment that is taking place in Pontchartrain Park. This is a community - driven initiative to rebuild this historic community with sustainable, beyond green home designs. The Pontchartrain Park Community Development Corporation, headed by actor Wendell Pierce , SRP Development and Stalwart Built Homes launch the rebuilding initiative with the opening of the model home on May 14, 2010.

The 1,000 gallon Original Rainwater Pillow system installed in the home's crawl space will be used to drip irrigate all the trees and shrubs. The system will collect approximately 600 gallons for water from one inch of rainfall. With an average annual rainfall of 57 inches, 34,000 gallons of water can be collected and used. The demand for municipal water is reduced along with the energy necessary to provide city water. Rainwater harvesting collects and reuses rainwater at the source.
